Alan Harris

Alan Harris is the founder of Harris & Ruble.  A 1974 graduate of the University of Illinois School of Law, Mr. Harris began his career as an antitrust attorney with the Chicago litigation boutique, Freeman, Freeman & Salzman.  There he worked on such landmark matters as Illinois v. Ill. Brick Co., Inc., 431 U.S. 720 (1977), and the Westinghouse Uranium Antitrust Litigation.  Mr. Harris has spent most of his career litigating class actions.  He has settled dozens of class actions, many of which involved multi-million dollar awards, also representing plaintiffs and defendants in class actions that were only resolved after trial.  He is also a director of Harris & Ruble ART and an active supporter of the Los Angeles Music Center, serving on the Board of the Fraternity of Friends, a group which consists of business, civic and entertainment industry leaders who share an interest in the performing arts and the well-being of the Music Center.

Today, his practice is focused on litigating corporate and class-action cases and advising entertainment industry and other clients on issues such as copyright, trademark, licensing, mergers and acquisitions and contracts.  His courtroom work is focused on labor and employment, intellectual property, breach of contract, privacy rights, and complex business matters.  Harris has handled numerous trials and appeals since he began practice in 1974.

Mr. Harris has recovered and distributed tens of millions of dollars to employees for violations of state and federal labor laws.  For example, in Kang v. Albertson’s, Inc., C.D. Cal. Case No. 2:07-CV-00894-CAS-FFM, he recovered $6,637,500 in a settlement distributed to pharmacists in California.  In Greenberg v. EP Mgmt. Servs., LP, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 237787, Mr. Harris was lead counsel in a class action which resulted in a $5,348,000 settlement distributed to employees in the motion-picture industry.  InDoty v. CostcoWholesale Corp., C.D. Cal. Case No. CV 05-3241FMC(JWJx), he recovered $7,500,000 distributed to Costco employees for violations of the California Labor Code and the Fair Labor Standards Act.  In the Blue Coal bankruptcy, Harris recovered millions of dollars owing to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on account of tax and environmental claims, establishing new precedents that lead to the adoption of the Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act by all but a handful of the states.
